About Matthew

Matthew first became interested in holistic medicine while studying for a Comparative Religions degree at San Diego State University. After moving to Oregon in 2001, he followed this interest into an herbal apprenticeship exploring the ecology of the Cascade Mountains. He also spent four years organic farming in the Willamette Valley. After moving to Portland in 2004, Matthew attended the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and received his masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Matthew comes from a diverse background of interests including East Asian philosophy, botany of native plants, carpentry, home fermentation, and nutrition. Last fall he traveled to Nanjing China where he completed advanced study in both acupuncture and Chinese herbology at various hospitals around the city. The experience helped to broaden his knowledge and clinical skills. It was a great opportunity to see how Traditional Chinese Medicine is practiced in its native land, fully integrated with Western Biomedicine in a truly complementary health care system.

Matthew specializes in alleviating both acute and chronic pain, reducing stress & anxiety, controlling seasonal allergies, improving digestive health, decreasing hypertension, and boosting energy and immunity. He is also a certified teacher and practitioner of 1000 Hands Buddha qigong.
